The choir, formed from staff at Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Choir, sing A Bridge Over You, a mash-up of Coldplay’s Fix You and Simon and Garfunkel’s Bridge Over Troubled Water.
Taking on the likes of X Factor victor Louisa Johnson, the choir has mounted a social campaign dubbed #LoveYourNHS to help it reach the the top spot.
Up to date: 16:51 EST, 21 December 2015 Justin Bieber has had a reasonably profitable twosome of months, following the release of his fourth album objective & gaining a number one spot within the charts with his hit single What Do You Imply?& now it appears the Canadian pop show star is about to land himself another huge coup – the UK’s Christmas number one.
Dr Harriet Nerva, founder of a campaign to get the song and the choir to the top of the tree at Christmas: “I was aware of the song and I was listening back to it and looking at the video, it was after I’d had quite a hard day at work when a patient I’d been looking after for quite a long time, a number of weeks, had passed away”.
Louisa Johnson, the X Factor victor, could also catch up, but entered the chart at only number nine on Friday: by far the worst-performing debut single from any victor of the ITV talent show.
Wham’s Last Christmas is sitting at No 22 and Merry Christmas Everyone is at 29. The popular favourite, first released in 1973, is at number 30.
The Official Christmas Singles Chart Top 40 will be counted down on BBC Radio 1’s Official Chart with Greg James between 10am – 1pm on Friday, December 25, and also announced on BBC One’s Top of the Pops.
Oscar-winner Adele has already made chart history with 25, which is now the fastest two million-selling album in the UK.

The new Christmas Number One will be the earliest announced in terms of time, as it will be announced 13 hours after the count is taken at midnight.
