A deputy from the Macomb County Sheriff’s Department was on patrol late at night when he spotted a vehicle being driven erratically.
According to the Detroit Free Press, the teenager faces charges of unlawful driving away, fleeing and eluding, and resisting and obstructing a police officer.
The joyrider briefly complied before accelerating off, sparking the high-speed pursuit. The deputy pursued, unaware that the driver was a 13-year-old boy.
The 13-year-old complied at first, but as the officer stepped out of his cruiser he sped off, swerving across the highway and through traffic, eventually losing control.
The sheriff said the deputy was surprised at who jumped out of the Altima.
As officers approached, the boy and his younger sister can be seen on the video running from the vehicle.
The deputy can be heard in the video footage voicing his realization that the fleeing pair were children: ‘It’s a little kid!’ he tells a dispatcher. He is now being held at the Macomb Juvenile Justice Center.

The 13-year-old is expected to have a juvenile detention hearing later today.
