However, Delhi Chief Minsiter and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal said Jaitley can not intimidate him and his party by filing a court case.
Jaitley paid from his pocket a stamp duty of Rs 9.80 lakh to register his Rs 10 crore defamation suit in the HC against Kejriwal, Ashutosh, Sanjay Singh, Kumar Vishwas, Raghav Chadha and Deepak Bajpayi.
NEW DELHI: The DDCA row resonated in Parliament on Monday with BJP member Kirti Azad embarrassing the ruling side by demanding an SIT probe while Congress pressed for resignation of Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
With its own MP Kirti Azad levelling corruption charges against Arun Jaitley, BJP chief Amit Shah on Monday came out in support of the finance minister.
But even as Jaitley approached court, Kejriwal kept up a steady attack and instituted a commission of enquiry headed by former Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium.
“We shall continue to fight corruption”, Kejriwal added.
“Jaitley has not taken any pecuniary advantage from DDCA at all”.
The complaint was filed under various sections of the IPC including 499 (defamation), 500 (punishment), 501 and 502 (printing and sale of defamatory matter).Senior advocate Siddharth Luthra, who appeared for Jaitley, himself an eminent lawyer, pleaded for immediately recording the minister’s statement but the court just took cognisance of the complaint and posted the case for January 5 when Jaitley will record his testimony.
He had also asked Jaitley to cooperate with the Commission of Enquiry set up by his government and prove his innocence.
Speaking about allegations of his association with 21st Century Media Pvt Ltd, Jaitley told the court that neither he, nor anyone in his family ever had any commercial dealings.
“This was my issue which was hijacked by the Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress for political gains”. He did not name Jaitley, who was present in the House, but reminded members: “And we know who was heading the DDCA (cricket body) between 2008 and 2013”. “BJP unitedly stands behind Arun Jaitley whose transparency is cited as an example in public life”, he said.

Her remarks came in response to a plea by BJD’s Baijayant Panda who said the Congress members should stop protesting in the national interest as he was raising an important question about security. The party raised the issue in the Lok Sabha too before walking out, expressing dissatisfaction at Jaitley’s reply.
