GOP debate draws 18 million viewers
This makes it the third most-watched presidential primary debate ever, behind only the two summer GOP debates that kicked off the 2016 election cycle.

CNN’s coverage of the undercard debate with four candidates begins at 6 p.m. Eastern.
Subsequent Republican debates on CNBC and Fox Business News drew smaller crowds, of 14 million and 13.5 million, respectively, though those networks are available in fewer households than the big two cable news channels.
The debate, the GOP’s last of 2015, will be moderated by CNN’s Wolf Blitzer. Fox News averaged about 25 million viewers in August and CNN averaged 24 million in September, when there was enormous curiosity about what a debate featuring Trump would look like. Around 9:45 p.m. ET, about an hour into the prime time debate, the livestream peaked with 815,000 concurrent viewers, according to a CNN spokesman.
It’s a good sign for programmers still champing at the bit to put the Republicans (most notably Donald Trump) on live TV.
The second most popular television program on Twitter, “The Voice”, attracted 206,000 tweets, which were seen by a unique audience of 2.93 million people.
CNN has invited the following candidates to participate in the debate: Jeb Bush, Ben Carson, Chris Christie, Ted Cruz, Carly Fiorina, Lindsey Graham, Mike Huckabee, John Kasich, George Pataki, Rand Paul, Marco Rubio, Rick Santorum and Donald Trump. On Monday, following a rare meeting at the Pentagon with security officials, President Obama acknowledged American worries about the threat ISIS poses at home and overseas.

The next Democratic debate will be in Manchester, N.H., on Saturday, Dec. 19.
