With a lot of cash in the bank, and the response to the film generally very positive, all concerned with Star Wars: The Force Awakens can finally breathe out a little. The film also set a new IMAX worldwide opening weekend record – grossing USD$48 million worldwide on 677 screens (excluding China), surpassing the Company’s previous best weekend set by Jurassic World with USD$44.1 million globally (which included China). The previous worldwide box-office record holder in IMAX – without China – was Avengers: Age of Ultron, which earned USD$25.2 million during its opening weekend globally.
