Variety have revealed that Harrison Ford is the film’s biggest earner by some distance, netting himself an eight figure sum that is estimated to be somewhere in the $10 million to $20 million range.
He celebrates Star Wars opening to $528 million overall, beating Jurassic World’s previous record-setting opening weekend box office of $524.9 million.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens, directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan & Abrams, features a cast including actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Academy Award victor Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Crystal Clarke, Pip Andersen, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow. The Force Awakens is just Star Wars for the new generation, and what’s more, it adds a richer layer of meaning and depth to those of us who grew up with the originals and serves as a timely reminder that the more things change, the more they stay the same. Driver and Isaac, both of whom have had their share of small-time fame leading up to the movie, received “mid to high six-figures”. The seventh installment of the epic saga now has the most successful debut of all-time stateside.
The salaries don’t include back-end bonuses from the pic’s box office haul that in a rare case doesn’t even kick in till the film crosses $1 billion worldwide, and following the success of “The Force Awakens”, deals are expected to be renegotiated before the next films get underway. Prizes included seven years of free movies at the Alamo Drafthouse, lots of “Star Wars” merchandise, and a trophy emblazoned with the words “Ultimate Champion”.
