About 400,000 refugees have illegally entered Greece via Turkey in 2015, but more than 3,000 of them, mostly Syrians, have lost their lives in boat accidents across the Aegean.
“Greece can not become a warehouse of souls for people who don’t want to stay here”, Tsipras said.

Meanwhile police began to dismantle migrant tents which had been blocking a rail line for the past month, leading to losses for the rail operator and Greek exporters. The services are now expected to restart soon.
The police operation, which Greek authorities heralded last week, was carried out relatively smoothly following weeks of tensions along the border.
Police said 10 migrants were detained for resisting a transfer to the buses.
Macedonia, like Serbia and Croatia, has been stopping migrants who aren’t from Syria, Afghanistan or Iraq from crossing its territory on their way to Northern Europe. Many others do not survive the journey.

The 26 survivors told Greek authorities that there were more than 50 people on board the boat when they started their trip from Turkey’s coasts. Most of the young people also suffered personal losses, as one in five is still searching for a family member missing in Syria.
