Industry analyst Trilby Lundberg said Sunday that the average price of regular gas fell 4 cents in the past two weeks, to $2.06 per gallon.

But the price-tracking website GasBuddy.com says the average has dropped to $1.99 per gallon, the first time it’s been below $2 since March of 2009.
If you’re taking a road trip over the holidays, you’ll be paying the lowest gas prices in nearly seven years. Prices are poised to remain depressed into next year after the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries refused to limit its output.
Texas gasoline prices are among the nation’s cheapest, averaging $1.79 per gallon.
The price was $2.13 at almost a dozen stations, including the Rutter’s on Route 441 just outside Marietta, US Gas at Lime and Lemon streets in Lancaster, and at the Sunoco station at Marietta Avenue and Rohrerstown Road in East Hempfield Township.
Gas prices have been on the decline for several reasons.
Holiday travelers will be getting a gift at the pump this year.
GasBuddy projects that consumers will save $1.6 billion on gas over their year-end travels.
“Drivers across the country are celebrating the historic return of cheaper gas prices”, said Marshall Doney, AAA’s president and chief executive.
The national average is likely to tick slightly higher throughout the busiest travel period of the year as prices have moved higher in the Great Lakes and continue to climb in California.

The service’s holiday travel survey indicates 88% of holiday travelers said they will be making their trips by vehicle.
