Arsenal boost title hopes with crucial win over Manchester City

The Gunners playmaker has also made the maximum number of goals in Europe’s top 5 leagues with 15, with Paris Saint-Germain winger Di Maria behind him in second place with nine assists. “We didn’t take a gamble at all”.
After his latest energetic showing against Manchester City the winger spoke positively about Arsenal’s tactical intelligence and the club’s chances of winning a first championship in 11 years.
“In our team, most of the time, Ozil is this player”.
“We are capable of doing different things sometimes and that is what makes it harder for the opponent”, the former Germany global said.
Manchester City have lost a derby match against Arsenal, falling six points behind current Premier League leaders Leicester and four behind aforementioned Arsene Wenger’s team.
Claudio Ranieri’s side have lost just once in the league all season – nearest challengers Arsenal beat them 5-2 in September – and recent Premier League statistics suggest they are in the driving seat to seal what would be the first English title in their history.
“It’s too early to say (we will) win the league but it strengthens our belief that we have a word to say”.
“We have to play them (Arsenal) at home, we have to play Leicester so we have to keep the head up keep working and keep sticking together”. But Arsenal held firm and go into the hectic Christmas period with confidence booming.
“Last season when we played at City we showed we could play a different kind of game-plan”, Mertesacker said.
“We have a bit more maturity in the side now, which you could see in the game when we were under pressure”.
He continued: “It was a great game, we got a good result and now we have to look forward, there is still a lot of work to do”.
“We have not proven anything yet and if we are to talk of the title we have to be even more consistent”, he added.
Mertesacker still feels Arsenal’s display showed their ability to win games in more than one way, unlike in previous years.

“Now what we have to do is try to bounce back on Saturday and get back on track”. That is why we implement them into games but we are still unsafe on the counter-attack and that makes us a real threat. I just help them in return so today was another important game for us.
