Star Wars Takes Jurassic World’s Record

On Dec. 18, the world was reintroduced to a galaxy, far, far away when “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” was released.
The Force has awoken at the global box office, with Star Wars Episode VII earning $529 million on its opening weekend, outshining Jurassic World’s $524 million from earlier in the year.
In the United Kingdom it took £9.6 million on Thursday – a new first day record. The domestic four-day take is poised to be around $288 million.
As far as all-time box office sales, two films by James Cameron hold the record – “Avatar” ($2.78 billion) and “Titanic” ($2.18 billion), and it is expected that “The Force Awakens” might unseat both.
In a movie as big as this – it’s already broken a number of notable box office records – there are inevitably going to be a very long list of Easter Eggs which make repeat viewings essential, and you just know that’s something Disney are pretty happy about right now!
Analysts say the space saga could become the biggest-selling movie of all time, even if it does fail to top Jurassic World’s global opening figures.
Variety goes on to report that Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher were both paid low-seven-figure salaries, with Adam Driver and Oscar Isaac receiving mid-to-high-six-figures, and John Boyega and Daisy Ridley earning between $100,000 and $300,000.

Meanwhile “Creed”, a next-generation version of the “Rocky” series earned $5 million in its fourth week on the big screen.
