Abbas is in Greece on a two-day official visit.

Abbas says this will happen in about a year at the most, replacing the name Palestinian Authority.
In this, however, Sweden was the eighth European state to recognize the Palestinian state after the Czech Republic; Hungary; Poland; Bulgaria; Romania; Malta, and Greek Cypriot administration, which made their recognition some time before they became European Union members.
A ceremony will accompany the vote on the resolution as Greece joins dozens of other countries that accord recognition to Palestine, the source said.
The Greek parliament will call on the government on Tuesday to recognize a “Palestinian state”.
The Greek parliament’s foreign affairs committee unanimously approved the motion to recognize Palestine and President Abbas in Athens on Monday to attend the historic parliamentary debate.
Greek parliament president Nikos Voutsis hands over the resolution on recognition of the state of Palestine by Greece to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas during a parliamentary session in Athens yesterday.
Despite its long-held position of support for the Palestinian people, Mr Tsipras’s left-wing government is also working on improving relations with Israel.
The two-state solution of an independent Palestinian state existing side-by-side with Israel has been the broad objective of negotiations since the mid-1970s and the overriding focus of US-led diplomacy for the past 20 years.
Mr. Tsipras said that the term “Palestine” will henceforth be used in all Greek public documents.
Greece, which enjoys close relations with Israel, has steadily supported the creation of a Palestinian state on the basis of the 1967 borders and with the capital in East Jerusalem.
