Demetrious Johnson (22-2-1), who has become one of the world’s greatest fighters pound-for-pound, apparently doesn’t plan to slow down anytime soon.
UFC 191 finally has its main event, as it was announced during Wednesday’s UFC Fight Night 71 card on Fox Sports 1 that Demetrious Johnson and John Dodson will headline the September 5 pay-per-view event. Nevertheless, Dodson came the closest to stopping Johnson on his way to the pinnacle of the weight class.
Since their first fight, Johnson has had four more title defenses while Dodson is 3-0 with a long hiatus after tearing his ACL in 2014. UFC officials announced the bout today for the show, which is a rematch from UFC on FOX 6.
Following two-straight stoppage victories over Darrell Montague and John Moraga, the 30-year-old standout from Albuquerque, New Mexico missed significant time in 2014 as he went under the knife to fix a torn meniscus as well as his anterior cruciate ligament. When he returned to action against Zach Makovsky at UFC 187, his performance was sub-standard and he was quite fortunate to get a unanimous decision win. In his most recent bout, “Mighty Mouse” submitted Kyoji Horiguchi at 4:59 of the final round of the UFC 186 title fight, making it the latest stop in UFC history.

Also on the card are light heavyweights Anthony Johnson and Jan Blachowicz, bantamweights Francisco Rivera and John Lineker, plus women’s strawweights Paige VanZant and Alex Chambers.
