The statement said the Chinese military on the island went on high alert during the December 10 overflight and warned the aircraft to leave the island’s airspace.
China’s Defense Ministry on Saturday accused the US of deliberately raising tensions in the region, where China has been aggressively asserting its claims to virtually all islands, reefs and their surrounding seas. China has filed a diplomatic complaint with the United States over the incident, which has also drawn the attention of the USA military since the aircraft was supposed to fly outside of the 12-mile territorial limit around the island.

The revelation of the over-flight is drawing a high-level Chinese response. Bill Urban as saying that the B-52 was not on a so-called freedom of navigation operation, meant to assert the plane’s right to transit the area.
This week, Australia said one of its military surveillance planes had flown near disputed areas of the South China Sea.
China, which claims nearly the entire South China Sea, has stepped up a program of land reclamation and construction in the disputed islands and reefs, which has sparked concern in the US and the Asia-Pacific region.
Repeated U.S. provocations have fueled tensions in the South China Sea, doing a disservice to regional efforts for peace and stability in the waters and undermining efforts to resolve the maritime disputes between some countries and China through dialogue and negotiation.
