Arsenal won the match 2-1 to move four points clear of City and stay second in the table, two points behind surprise leaders Leicester City.

Theo Walcott scored a brilliant opening goal as Arsenal established itself as the number one challenger to Premier League leader Leicester City by overcoming Manchester City 2-1 on Monday.
“Good organisation, strong solidarity, high work rate, moments of brilliance and moments where we needed to hang on because that is important as well and overall because we could kill the game and we had the chances to do it”.
“(But) we have not proven anything yet and if we are to talk of the title we have to be even more consistent”, added the 2014 World Cup victor.
Sagna, whose present deal with Manchester City runs until 2017, has made 25 appearances in all competitions for the club this season.
Reflecting on their strategy, 31-year-old Mertesacker said that his side concentrate on one game at a time and try to prepare for it accordingly, the Guardian reported. He puts himself under so much pressure that he can’t handle it for more than a few seasons. “We did a great job to win against a great opponent”. “That is our thoughts and that is why we implement them into games sometimes but we are still unsafe on the counterattack and that makes us a real threat”.
Wenger was asked about the two players’ contracts in today’s press conference and said: “We’ll deal with that later in the season”.
The Germany defender said: “He is vital for us, especially when we play deep [as we did against City]. We kept fighting until the end and never gave up”. We think that is best way to win against City but we need to trust that way as well – it is not only thinking about it, it is also about putting it in to practice.

“Now we face the next challenge on Saturday (at Southampton)”. “I am very happy with the character and the personality of the team, they never gave up”, he insisted. You had times where you had players on the ground at both sides of the pitch because of that total commitment.
