Disney’s $4 billion acquisition of Lucasfilm is likely looking like a good deal in light of the film’s performance. This broke the record for best worldwide opening, which was set earlier this year by “Jurassic World”.
It seems that the “Star Wars” sequel will hit US$528 million, which is higher than the dinosaur film’s $524 million for global release, The Hollywood Reporter details. Above marked the words, ‘Marvel Studios congratulates Jurassic World on being the new opening weekend KING!’.
In 2014, prior to negotiating cast salaries for The Force Awakens, Disney reportedly agreed upon a “legacy pay scale” in which actors would receive considerable pay increases which coincided with their involvement in the franchise. Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow is also set to helm Star Wars: Episode IX. The new sticker collection and trading card game should be ideal for Star Wars fans and movie goers alike.
It’s also a paycheck that would not have been possible if Lucas had agreed with Ford’s initial wish to have Han Solo killed at the end of Return of the Jedi, the last movie in the original trilogy.
Wairere, who admits his wife “isn’t really a fan” of the films, formulated a plan, enlisting the creative talents of his daughter Maia and son Atticus to make the 10-year milestone truly unforgettable.
The movie stars veterans Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, along with newcomers Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis and Domhnall Gleeson.
The animated “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip”, came in second place in its first weekend, with $14.3 million, according to box office tracker Exhibitor Relations. The movie is already in striking distance of earning back that $550 million, and tracking toward a couple billion total gross when it’s all said and done, plus home media.

Meanwhile “Creed”, a next-generation version of the “Rocky” series earned $5 million in its fourth week on the big screen.
