Air France Plane Makes Emergency Landing After Suspected Bomb Found In Toilet
The police official, who is part of the investigation and who insisted on anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to the media, said during the flight to Paris a passenger noticed something in one of the plane’s lavatories that looked like “a stopwatch mounted on a box”.

The suspicious object, which was made out of cardboard and paper and contained a timer, was harmless and caused a “false alarm”, the airline’s chief executive Frederic Gagey said earlier at a news conference in the French capital, adding that it must have been planted during the flight.
He said the Kenya airports are secure and emergency landing was very successful.
Two passengers on the Air France flight have been arrested.
MOMBASA, Kenya Kenyan authorities are investigating the nature of a suspect device found in a toilet aboard an Air France flight from Mauritius that made an emergency landing at Kenya’s port city of Mombasa, its interior minister said on Sunday.
He said the crew had no evidence that the device was an actual bomb, so telling passengers there was a technical problem was true “in the sense that they don’t know what they have”.
The Boeing-777 had been on its way from Mauritius to Paris, but all 473 people on board were evacuated after reports of an explosive device in the toilet.
The threat, which originated from United States intelligence, had an immediate impact at British airports where passengers were subjected to more stringent and rigorous security checks.
A passenger who spoke to journalists after leaving the plane in Mombasa described the emergency landing.
“The plane just went down slowly, slowly, slowly, so we just realised probably something was wrong”, said Benoit Lucchini, from Paris.
A bomb squad entered the plane and removed the item, though Gagey said it did not appear to be unsafe.
Flight AF 463 left Mauritius at 9pm local time on Saturday bound for Paris Charles de Gaulle.
Earlier Air France confirmed all passengers were evacuated from the aircraft by its emergency slides. After the plane landed, they told us to run to the chutes, and to keep going, far from the plane.
