These numbers are as of December 19 and includes those who enrolled by December 17 or who were automatically re-enrolled in coverage effective January 1.
These data, for the first time, reflect the vast majority of consumers who were automatically re-enrolled into 2016 coverage. Open enrollment ends January 31.
On Friday, President Barack Obama announced that enrollment had reached 6 million after this month’s deadline for policies that will be in force on New Year’s Day. Some become uninsured again.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services reports more than 8.2 million Americans have enrolled in health insurance through healthcare.gov, and close to 376,000 of them are in Virginia.
What the survey determined was that about one in every six residents of the state who have MA health insurance coverage will still forgo obtaining medical care due to the potential costs they could end up facing. A CNBC report emphasized the fact that, as of last week, roughly 2.1 million people under the age of 35 had enrolled through the federal exchange marketplace, a significant increase over last year’s total.
HealthCare.gov sells subsidized individual insurance in 37 states, and Burwell said millions more had gained coverage through the state-based insurance exchanges that serve Washington, D.C. and the remaining 13 states.
Independent analysts said the administration should be able to meet or exceed that goal. This year’s study was conducted from May through August and involved the participation of 5,002 respondents who included everyone from children all the way through senior citizens.
When Virginia customers visit HealthCare.gov they’ll find a variety of quality health coverage options available.

If the pace of sign-ups continues like it did previous year, 10.7 million people could have coverage through the U.S.-run market by the time the enrollment period ends, Jason McGorman, an analyst with Bloomberg Intelligence, said in a note Tuesday. Those worries contributed to a slump this year in hospital chains such as Tenet Healthcare Corp. and Community Health Systems Inc.
