Wenger hails a “great week” for Arsenal
The Gunners got their largely on the strength of Olivier Giroud.

A landmark 50th Premier League goal from Olivier Giroud, a penalty converted four days after his Champions League hat-trick against Olympiakos Piraeus, swiftly brought more gloom to Villa Park after eight minutes.
At 29, Giroud is only the seventh Arsenal player to reach 50 goals in the Premier League, joining Thierry Henry, Ian Wright, Robin van Persie, Dennis Bergkamp, Robert Pires and Theo Walcott in an illustrious club. He is questioned sometimes but finally the numbers are adding up and people are realising what a good player he is. “I think he’s improved technically and his link-up play is better”.
“Maybe he is not spectacular individually but he is very efficient and a very important player for the team. He is also mentally very strong”.
Villa were unable to set up an uncomfortable finish as Adam Traore sent a shot into the side-netting to the relief of Arsenal, who could be replaced at the top by Leicester City today, and the loss leaves the Garde’s side eight points adrift of safety at the bottom. He also appears regularly on numerous television and radio talk shows all across the country.
No other club which has picked up just six points from 16 games has ever survived relegation, but Garde is not ready to throw in the towel as he targets a first win at the sixth attempt since taking over from Tim Sherwood when they travel to Aston Villa on Saturday.
[At] 2-0 at half-time, I knew the second half would be more hard and then they did well and there were some opportunities for Aston Villa, but we didn’t manage to score the third goal.
“His team looked in good spirit with good cohesion and they are a bit short of confidence”, Wenger said.
Beaten by Wolfsburg in midweek to be eliminated from the Champions League, the Red Devils at least remained in fourth after Tottenham Hotspur was stunned 2-1 at home by Newcastle in Sunday’s late kickoff, ending its 14-match unbeaten run.
“He’s always available, that’s one thing I like with him”. Scott Sinclair was doing his best to spark the Villans into life but on 38 minutes, Aaron Ramsey netted (via another Mesut Ozil assist) after a superb break.

“But I was happy with the way we reacted in the second half after making the worst possible start by going behind inside 10 minutes in such a game”. Arsenal have in recent years gained a reputation for not turning up in big games and then as soon as we put that right it was the opposite, that Arsenal failed when we were expected to roll teams over.
