Stoke still wary of out-of-sorts Man United: Hughes
Stoke City boss Mark Hughes says Louis van Gaal can’t rely on his reputation to save him from the sack if Manchester United fail to get back on track quickly.

However, as the hectic festive period looms large, Mata has moved to insist that the Red Devils are doing all that they can to reverse their ailing fortunes.
But Hughes believes the United team have failed in their duty to entertain, suggesting most players are not handling the pressure that comes with playing at Old Trafford amid a six-game winless streak in all competitions.
United have conceded in the opening 45 minutes in four of their last five games and Van Gaal’s side will be lacking in confidence given their recent run. Although Stoke lost to Crystal Palace last weekend I think they will bounce back since they are a team with quality players who are all playing well.
A 2-1 home defeat to Norwich last weekend was a bad result and if United perform as badly here, Stoke will surely seal all three points.
Mark Hughes will be desperate to see Stoke rally to beat United for just the second time in Premier League history here and the home crowd will no doubt make it a tough afternoon for the visitors.
And Hughes, a revered former United striker, could turn up the heat even more if his Stoke team condemn van Gaal’s men to a fourth successive loss on Boxing Day. “I try to give the maximum regardless of things going well or bad”.
“We are in a complicated situation and in order to get out of it we have to stick together and believe in ourselves so we can get a positive result as soon as possible”. It’s time to prepare for the next game, show our strength as a group and make the most of all these fixtures in the Christmas period so we can start a good run of results.
Hughes scored 163 goals in 473 appearances for Manchester United across two separate stints, winning two Premier League titles, three FA Cups and a UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup.

Mata played the entire 90 minutes against Alex Neil’s newly-promoted side and readily concedes that he and his team-mates are stuck in a rut, and are now letting the Old Trafford faithful down.
