Ukraine trade pact talks with Russian Federation end without result
The EU had been talking for 18 months over Russia’s concerns the deal would harm its economy, but those discussions deadlocked with officials accusing each other of failing to compromise. But it didn’t offer a reopening of the European Union trade deal itself.

The Council of the European Union said in a statement on its website Monday that sanctions were supposed to come to an end on January 31, 2016, but they were prolonged until July 31, 2016.
“We were a bit surprised by Putin’s announcement”, she said.
Myronovych called the move a “large-scale provocation”, and said Ukrainian government forces had reported the incident to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, which is tasked with policing the psuedo-ceasefire in east Ukraine.
The trade pact is part of a wider EU-Ukraine association agreement which sparked the overthrow of the pro-Moscow government in Kiev in early 2014. However, he added, Moscow does not want to break off economic ties with Ukraine.
John Smith, the department’s acting sanctions boss, demanded that Russian Federation adhere to a February cease-fire in Ukraine.
Moscow has denied military involvement in Eastern Ukraine and has subsequently responded by imposing an embargo on agricultural products, food and raw materials on countries that joined anti-Russian sanctions. In addition, Brussels imposed restrictions on the supply of weapons and military equipment to Russian Federation as well as military technology, dual-use technologies, hi-tech equipment and technology for oil production.
The EU concluded that Russian Federation had failed to fully respect the roadmap to peace in eastern Ukraine, as determined by the so-called Minsk accord.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said that he welcomes the extension.
Mr. Klimkin said cease-fire violations have increased in the past month and that there was no progress on exchanging hostages, not even the wounded.
“Russia is in full control in Donbas, there is a Russian officer in every rebel unit”.
