Olympic ski champion Shiffrin heading home for kne
Lindsey Vonn won her first giant slalom since her career-altering 2013 World Championships crash, proving Saturday (against an unaccomplished field) that she’s the world’s best healthy and active skier.

“She basically flipped over into the net”, Albrecht told the AP in describing how the injury occurred. “She’s in the hospital waiting for the MRI which will probably take a while”.
The U.S. Ski Team is reserving comment on the incident until the full extent of Shiffrin’s injury is known.
The 20-year-old won back-to-back slalom races in her home state last month.
One of Sweden’s more popular athletes, Hansdotter finished second behind Shiffrin in the season-long World Cup slalom standings for the last two years.
Eva-Maria Brem of Austria finished second, 0.07 seconds behind, and discipline leader Federica Brignone of Italy was third, 0.35 back.
“I watched playback of that win yesterday evening and I had plenty of confidence coming out of Lake Louise”. “So I really like racing under the lights”.
“The old woman still has some tricks up her sleeve”, the 31-year-old Vonn added. “So I just gave it everything I have and I tried to arc and I’m happy that I was fast”. She celebrated her first-run lead by raising her left pole and pumping her fist.
Vonn’s lead over Brem was a slender three hundredths of a second at the final interval.
Andrew Dampf of the Associated Press reported she was transported to a local hospital to undergo further testing on the injury.
There was also a setback for American Ted Ligety in the men’s giant slalom in Val d’Isere.
Swede Sara Hector’s diagnosis following a dicey recovery that forced her to pull out of the Are GS mid-run and ride in a sled down the hill is less fortunate.
“I was watching some video from that win last night”, Vonn said between runs.

She then held off her challengers by the narrowest of margins for what was her fourth straight World Cup win this season after taking two downhills and a Super-G at Beaver Creek. Mikaela Shiffrin (Eagle-Vail, CO) did not start after sustaining a pre-race injury.
