Oakland Raiders’ Charles Woodson to retire at the end of the season
Woodson on Monday said he wanted to let the Raiders fans know that his appearance against the Chargers Thursday night will be his last in Oakland.

“It will be emotional. I’ve been emotional all day, so it will be that way Thursday for Raider Nation”, Woodson told reporters.
“I’m very grateful that I was able to come back here and play for a second time around”, Woodson said. In his inaugural season, Woodson caught five interceptions and would continue to be amongst the league’s best defensive backs up until his injury plagued final years in Oakland. “If Jerry Rice asks me to return a punt or play receiver, I’m going to say, ‘Jerry, thank you”. But mentally, it’s not there.
After the Green Bay Packers beat the Oakland Raiders 30-20 on Sunday, I went to the Raiders’ locker room rather than the Packers’ to get Charles Woodson’s take on his former team.
The Raiders are trumpeting the idea that Woodson, a longtime leader of their team, deserves to win what will be his final home game in Oakland.
Woodson made the Pro Bowl in each of his first four seasons with the Raiders and he was named a First-Team All-Pro in 1999 at the age of 23, alongside Deion Sanders. He went on to win the 2009 defensive player of the year award and earned a ring at the completion of the 2010 season when the Packers won Super Bowl XLV.
Finally gaining entrance into the end zone as an offensive player might just be the most fitting way for Woodson to end his historic career. He loves football and, like numerous game’s greatest players, he loves to compete.
“It has been an honour to have worked alongside Charles for so many years and have the confidence to call him what he truly is – the greatest of all time”.
Oakland Raiders’ Marcel Reece (45) runs onto the field during player introductions before their game against the Cincinnati Bengals at O.co Coliseum in Oakland, Calif., on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2015.

It will be an emotional day for all of us, indeed. Fast forward seven seasons, and Woodson became everything his talent suggested he could be – and perhaps more. Obama would make a reference to Woodson’s famed speech stating “I have learned something that many quarterbacks have learned”. The Packers led the NFC in total defense a year later on their way to winning Super Bowl XLV. Murray needs 44 yards to reach 1000 yards in his first full season as the Raiders’ starting running back. “Come On Man!!” The Raiders start the game with Carr coming out, and throwing not one, but TWO pick sixes!! F.Y.I. Pro Football Focus had him a year ago as the league’s third-worst cornerback in pass coverage and had him allowing 10 touchdowns with quarterbacks owning a passer rating of 140.2 when throwing his way.
