In 2012, The Guardian’s Peter Preston catalogued the deaths of journalists since Putin came to power, many of them dying by gunshot wounds. Hes always denied it. Its never been proven that hes killed anybody, Trump said on ABCs This Week on Sunday. He also applauded Putin as “a leader, unlike, you know, what we have in this country”. “It has not been proven that he’s killed reporters”.
Speaking to ABC’s George Stephanopolous on Sunday, the Republican said that it would be “despicable” if Putin had been behind the murders of reporters in Russian Federation, but added that he had “never seen any information or any proof”. Putin also described Trump as the “absolute frontrunner in the presidential race”. Trump responded, “Our country does plenty of killing also, Joe …” Putin in turn praised Trump this week, saying at a press conference on Thursday that the controversial businessman is a “very colorful, talented person”. “He’s a strong leader, he’s a powerful leader….”
On Sunday, Trump defended his endorsement by and of Putin, arguing he would “get along [with him] very well for the good of our country”.
To Trump I recommend the website of the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists (full disclosure: I’m a CPJ board member).
Rubio said Trump shouldn’t be honored by Putin’s praise. “I think it would be a positive thing if Russian Federation and the United States actually got along”.
Trump then turned to the allegations that Putin uses killings to intimidate his political opposition, including hostile reporters. I think that we can do things with Russian Federation that are to our advantage, ” Trump said.
Senator McCain has been a critic of Trump in the past, calling into question Trump’s understanding of Syria and worldwide politics, as well as his role in the Republican primary. There he’ll find profiles of 36 journalists who have been killed in Russian Federation since 1992, either while doing their work or in direct reprisal for doing it.
In response to criticism for the mysterious deaths of journalists under the Putin regime, Trump suggested that US does its own fair share of killing. “I mean you look at what went on in Libya you look at so many bad decisions that she made, she’s incompetent as far as I’m concerned”.

“The thing that is so concerning about Mr. Trump’s compliments of Vladimir Putin is Vladimir Putin has slaughtered his own, murdered his own people, including people I knew”, McCain said during an interview on Concord News Radio.
