Star Wars: The Force Awakens Projected to Dominate Christmas Weekend Box Office
Disney formally announced Mon.in that the newest film within the franchise earned a record 248 million dollars at the domestic box workplace over the weekend – 10 million greater than was previously estimated.

With the final numbers now in, it now seems that Star Wars has narrowly beaten the previous record holders, raking in 529 million USA dollars (£355 million) compared with Jurassic World’s 524.9 million dollars (£352 million).
Speaking at the European premiere of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” in London’s Leicester Square this week, he said: “I’m glad people are interested”.
In many countries, including the US, the movie is seeing a big boost from many kids and college students being out of school.

It achieved the widest December release in history by being screened in 4,134 theaters in North America, biggest single day and biggest opening day with $120.5 million in revenue, and biggest Imax bow with $30.1 million.

Variety adds that actors Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher were paid salaries in the “low-seven-figure range”. Newcomers John Boyega and Daisy Ridley, who play Finn and Ren, each made somewhere in the six-figure around $100,000-$300,000.
