National Basketball Association wants to regulate daily fantasy sports, Adam Silver says
In a setback to fantasy sports games played through such sites as FanDuel and DraftKings, Illinois Attorney Lisa Madigan issued an opinion Wednesday saying that such contests are illegal gambling under state law.

According to the Illinois General Assembly’s website, Zalewski’s bill would establish “certain requirements for policies and procedures for the operation of fantasy contests” and assure “that participants in fantasy contests as defined under the Fantasy Contests Act shall not be convicted of gambling”.
Daily fantasy sports sites like FanDuel and DraftKings have faced increased scrutiny as states decided whether to allow the sites to operate.
“Absent legislation specifically exempting daily fantasy sports contests from the gambling provisions, it is my opinion that daily fantasy sports contests constitute illegal gambling under IL law”, Madigan wrote.
Madigan’s decree follows decisions in NY and Nevada to ban the online sites for the same reason.
Democratic Reps. Scott Drury of Highwood and Elgie Sims of Chicago sought the opinion.
“Chicago may be the best sports town in the country”.
Daily fantasy sports differ from the traditional model in that contests are organized around short periods – a week, or a day – instead of a season. “The League” is even set in IL.
Texas law prohibits most forms of gambling.
FanDuel and DraftKings sent emails to more than a million players, the organization said, urging them to contact their lawmakers and Paxton.
