Justin Bieber better watch his back as an NHS hospital choir has become a surprise challenger in the annual race for the coveted Christmas number one slot.
Coral bookmakers announced they were suspending bets on who would claim the Christmas Number One spot as Bieber’s tweets had all but guaranteed a win for the NHS Choir.
“You don’t expect an NHS choir to make the top 40 so to be honest, we’re [already] massively pleased”.
“We are going head to head with Bieber for the Christmas Number One – I never thought I’d say that”, said Joe Blunden, NHS communications manager. Cut out your Bieber fever just for this week and get behind the NHS.
They may still be beaten by Justin Bieber’s Love Yourself, which has benefitted from high streaming figures which now count towards the official chart.

“The Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Choir tweeted, “@justinbieber Thank you.
So who will take the number one spot?
For only the fourth time in United Kingdom chart history, this year’s Christmas number one will be announced on Christmas day itself, with BBC Radio 1 counting down the festive chart within a special Christmas show from 10am to 1pm.
Proceeds from the song – a mash-up of Coldplay’s Fix You and Simon and Garfunkel’s Bridge Over Troubled Water – will go to Carers UK and Mind.
Earlier this week, the U.K.’s Official Charts Company revealed there was a difference of 3,000 in Bieber’s favor between the Ed Sheeran co-penned “Love Yourself” and the NHS Choir’s “A Bridge Over You”.

But this number could receive a boost with the release of the video to accompany the song.
