Protesters are calling for the dismantlement of the grand jury and the arrest of Officer Encenia, the DPS trooper who made the traffic stop that led to Bland’s arrest.

Encinia has been on administrative leave since Bland’s death. During a news conference Monday Sandra Bland’s mother, Geneva Reed-Veal, says officials have done little to provide answers. We are joined by Sandra Bland’s mother, Geneva Reed-Veal; her sister, Sharon Cooper; and family attorney, Cannon Lambert. County officials said they themselves received death threats. In dashboard camera video that became yet another flashpoint in the national controversy over racial bias by police, Trooper Brian Encinia shouts at Bland for refusing to get out of the vehicle or put out her cigarette and threatens at one point to jolt her with his Taser.
“There’s no doubt in my mind that she, like too many African-Americans who die in police custody, would be alive today if she were a white woman”, Sanders tweeted on Monday (Dec. 21). Three days later, she was found dead in a Waller County jail cell.
A Texas grand jury looking into the case of Sandra Bland has recessed without issuing any indictments. The family criticized the grand jury proceedings in Waller County, Texas. She was jailed with bond set at $5,000.
Muhammad says he agrees with Bland’s relatives who said they didn’t expect much from a grand jury system.
“We hope we will now receive all the information we’ve requested without limitation so we can proceed with our own investigation of what happened to Sandy Bland”, Rogers said.
Reed-Veal says that without seeing the Texas Rangers investigation into her daughter’s death, she can not accept the finding that it was suicide.
She said she was not surprised by the grand jury’s decision after seeing how other high-profile police confrontations around the country have played out.
The Texas Department of Public Safety published the full police dashcam video Wednesday showing the arrest of Sandra Bland in Texas, who died three days later in a police cell.
Waller County District Attorney Elton Mathis, who appointed five special prosecutors to handle the Bland case, has said there is nothing in that investigation “that shows anything happened but she killed herself”.
Mr McCraw said Mr Encinia violated internal policies of professionalism and courtesy. The panel could still separately consider charges on conduct related to the original arrest, he said.
In all likelihood, Sandra Bland would still be alive today if she’d been a white woman.

Melissa Hamilton, visiting criminal law scholar at the University of Houston, said Bland had no legal right to remain in her auto after the trooper ordered her out.
