NORAD helping Santa on journey
American and Canadian military personnel and their helpers are gearing up for the annual Christmas mission to track Father Christmas, or rather Santa Claus, as he makes his deliveries on Christmas Eve.

In a 1955 advertisement, the newspaper inadvertently listed the direct line of the crew commander at a US Air Force base in Colorado as the number children should call to reach Santa. So staff checked the radar for signs of Santa making his way south from the North Pole and gave kids updates on his location.
Thus, began the tradition of tracking Santa, which has been carried on by the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and created by the governments of Canada and the U.S.in 1958.
While Santa may have become more high-tech over the years, it is still magical watching him deliver his packages all over the world. Check back on TCPalm.com to track Santa’s trip! “I’m grateful for their service, and for all those who this year are dedicating part of their holiday to brightening someone else’s”.
Volunteers in Colorado will take phone calls to keep people updated, but Chouinard says callers won’t talk directly to Santa.
While children wait for the NORAD Santa Tracker to go live at 12:01 a.m. MST on December 24, they can check out the live ReindeerCam site that allows kids to see a live feed of the reindeer. Download the official NORAD Santa Tracker app for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Android smartphones and tablets.
Google is also tracking Santa Claus with its own Advent Calendar-style countdown and tracker, also available on Google Play.
NORAD’s website has a clock counting down for the big day, he said.
NORAD will begin its Santa tracking early Christmas Eve – starting at 2 a.m. on Thursday.
In 2013, the NORAD website attracted more than 19.5 million unique visitors in December, the Facebook page drew 1.45 million “likes” and the Twitter feed had 146,000 followers. Here’s what they said: “NORAD intelligence reports indicate that Santa does not experience time the way we do”.
