A ‘tale of two seasons’ this Christmas
Based on Detroit records, the “whitest” Christmas was in 1951 with 13 inches of snow recorded, with 6.2 inches of the snow falling on Christmas day, Deedler wrote. But not a surprising one: It’s just a few days before Christmas and the weather in the U.K.is so warm daffodils are springing up in parts of the country, including London.

A disturbance moving in from the northwest will allow a mix of rain and snow showers to develop over the far Four Corners region.
Temperatures then are expected to be 1C to 2C above normal, she said.
As for the likelihood of having a white Christmas every year, Kavinsky says the chances are not as great as those in northern Wisconsin have.
But many locals fear that because it is unusually warm now it will be bitter cold as we move into the winter months.
Historically Medicine Hat used to have a 75-per-cent chance of a white Christmas but in recent years it has dropped to only a 50-per-cent, said Phillips.
So what year set the Detroit record for the most snow on the ground, and also the record for the most snowfall ever on Christmas?
“Measurable snow means that at least 0.1” accumulates at the official weather station at some point between 12:01 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. on December 25. Minor slushy accumulations are expected for most people, but a lucky few could see up to 2 inches of snow, the weather service notes.
“It looks like there’s going to be a chance for additional heavy snow, and there’s a lot of winter watches and warnings out across the western US currently”, Oravec says.
Hundreds of warm temperature records fell in recent weeks as highs in southern Wisconsin and across the region reached the high 50s and even 60 degrees, shattering records that had stood since 1975.
“We could see 10cm [four inches] of snow over 400 meters in the north and while we have no plans to name this system at the moment, if there is likelihood of impact from the weather it will be named”.

Another winter weather advisory is calling for up to four inches of snow in the Arco area. The early forecast for Friday calls for mostly sunny skies and a high of 44 degrees.
