Modi and Russian President Valdimir Putin are scheduled to meet a delegation of Indian and Russian CEOs in the Kremlin.

Amid a debate on intolerance, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that India has an ancient tradition of “openness, respect for diversity of beliefs and cultures”.
During his China visit Modi also tweeted and used Facebook as the country is very strict about the usage of VPN software at times.
Modi was to arrive on the evening of December 23, in time for a private dinner with President Vladimir Putin.
‘I am certain that this visit will substantially take forward the already strong people-to-people ties between our nations, ‘ the Prime Minister said.
“Russia’s and India’s positions are close or coincide” on topical worldwide issues, the presidential press service said. Echoing last year’s assurances, Modi assured Putin that Moscow would remain India’s “principal partner” in defense, Russian state news reported. The mutual investment between the two countries stands at US$11 billion, which as India aims, should reach US$30 billion in another 10 years.
His travel to Russian Federation assumes great significance as this is one of the few major partnerships that has failed to take off since the NDA government came to office.
India and Russian Federation are likely to sign several agreements during the summit, chief among them being the acquisition of the S-400 air defense missile system by India. This deal, when finalised, will go a long way in mollifying Russian Federation, which will again occupy the position of premier defence equipment supplier to India.
Nuclear energy is another area where big deals are expected. The leaders have also displayed a friendly rapport: Putin, who holds a black belt in judo, promised Modi he’d try yoga at a meeting earlier this year.
Jaishankar said Modi’s talks in Moscow will also include nuclear cooperation.

India is also turning to Russian Federation to secure overseas energy assets. The two sides have outlined an ambitious vision for nuclear energy and construction of at least 12 reactors by Russia’s state-owned Rosatom at a cost of $3 billion a piece.
