Amir completed this programme which comprised lectures to junior teams warning them against corruption, sessions with psychologists and with senior players. While, visa permitting, he could also a find a spot in the final squad, the PCB said Amir will continue undergoing rehabilitation for another six months. Amir’s ban was relaxed in January this year and he was allowed to play domestic matches.
Amir, then Test captain Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif were charged with accepting money in exchange for arranging deliberate no-balls during a Test match at Lord’s in England in 2010.
In November, Hafeez had reportedly turned down an offer in the Bangladesh Premier League from the Chittagong Vikings franchise, who had enlisted Amir. “His selection for the national team, for which he is eligible, would depend on the selectors”.
He was called into a national training camp, despite opposition from former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja and all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez.
PCB, in its official statement on Wednesday, stated that many players and commentators oppose the left arm pacer’s selection in the national side. We are reminding them that even Islam calls for forgiveness in such cases.
“Mohammad Amir, after serving his sentence for spot fixing, has passed through a gradual process of rehabilitation and re-education”.
But the PCB hopes Amir will eventually be welcomed back into the fold. “They include Marlon Samuels, Herschelle Gibbs, Tyson Gay [an American sprinter]”, said the PCB.

PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan, meanwhile, has warned the young paceman that “he would constantly be seen under a microscope”, and Amir said this month he would do his best to prove he was a changed man.
