Grace Poe may be barred from Philippine presidential race
The Commission on Elections en banc on Wednesday upheld rulings of two of its divisions disqualifying Poe as presidential candidate on account of her questionable citizenship and residency in the Philippines. “The (commission) can not change that much less deprive our people of their right to choose our next leader”, she said in a statement.

There is a clear and unmistakable right for her to run for the presidency.
Earlier, the Comelec Second Division, voting 3-0, has ruled to cancel Poe’s certificate of candidacy (COC) based on the petition filed by lawyer Estrella Elamparo.
The election commission also concluded Ms Poe had not been a resident of the Philippines for longer than 10 years since she returned from the United States in 2006, where she had lived for most of her adult life and became a U.S. citizen in 2001.
The Supreme Court shall act on important and imminent cases, including the disqualification of Senator Grace Poe for the May 9, 2016 presidential election, even if the high tribunal is on recess.
The final ballot would be submitted to the Comelec en banc which will be granted two days from January 18-20 to approve its final appearance.
The ones who dissented were Comelec Chairman Andres Bautista and Commissioner Christian Robert Lim. The election commission disclosed its ruling just hours after the release of the results of a poll showing Ms Poe in a tie for the lead with Vice-President Jejomar Binay, 73, with 26 per cent each.
Senator Francis Escudero said the Comelec is a “bully” for saying Poe “deliberately attempted to mislead the electorate”. “If case is raffled to full court, it is the chief justice who can issue the TRO; if division, it will be the chair of the division”, Te said in a text message to reporters.
Gatchalian also cast doubt on the period in which the decisions were released, which he said was “very disturbing”.
“I am a Filipino and qualified to offer myself as President of our country”, she said. “She is still in the list”, he said in a press conference.
He also asked the Comelec to delete Duterte from the list of candidates for president and that he be excluded from the official ballot.
