Staff predictions: Green Bay Packers vs Oakland Raiders
The Arizona Cardinals host the Green Bay Packers in a battle of divisional leaders on Sunday, December 27 start time at 4:25 PM ET, at University of Phoenix Stadium, Glendale, AZ.

The Raiders punted, then watched Green Bay chew up 8 minutes, 11 seconds off the clock on a 19-play drive that ended with a 21-yard Mason Crosby field goal. Oakland (6-8) got within one just before halftime on a 19-yard touchdown pass from Carr to Amari Cooper.
“Mario, obviously, has become a real key member of our defensive front and having him go out early like he did definitely was a blow”, said coach Jack Del Rio.
The biggest adjustment came with dropping a commitment to power running with Lacy and Starks and switching to a match-up type game with Cobb in the backfield and four receivers in the lineup.
Leading 14-6, the Packers were driving when Charles Woodson – who else? – jarred the ball loose from James Starks and the Raiders’ Benson Mayowa snatched it out of Starks’ hands. The receivers didn’t win often enough on the perimeter and didn’t make enough happen after the catch.
“It’s all about finishing”, Woodson said. He’s had 10 sacks over his past four games. McCarthy also made sure he let everybody know how he felt about all the negative questions directed at he and his team following their securing ten-wins and securing a playoff spot. “We gave ourselves a chance but we didn’t come out with it at the end like we needed to”.
Micah Hyde was the man who made the big play as he intercepted a deep ball intended for Clive Walford on a third and nine. That setup Jon Kuhn’s 5-yard touchdown giving the Packers a 7-0 lead. His 5-yard run started things and got the offense some breathing room, and he later converted on third-and-1 with a 4-yard run around right end.
The Raiders rallied with a pair of field goals in the second quarter, but the Packers still looked to be in control as they drove into scoring range late in the half. For the 13th consecutive season, the Raiders will finish without a winning record or a playoff berth. I know how much work our team puts into this, our coaches.
Green Bay’s go-ahead touchdown pass, a 30-yard toss to James Jones, saw the former Raiders receiver break wide open and create an easy completion for Aaron Rodgers. After blowing a 14-point lead with multiple failed attempts getting into the red zone. Jones played for the Raiders a year ago and caught 73 passes for 666 yards and six touchdowns, all team highs, but they released him after the season.
Tight end Mychal Rivera and fullback Marcel Reece chipped in with one catch apiece, and Carr’s 17-yard run injected a little magic into the clutch drive that trimmed the Green Bay lead to 14-13 at the half. Hyde would nearly get the touchdown himself, but would be tackled at the two and then they would push the ball back to the 17 yard line due to an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Oakland will need to win that game, and the season finale in Kansas City on January 3, to get to 8-8 and avoid yet another losing season. The way he bounced back Sunday, overcoming two first-quarter interceptions (one for a touchdown) revealed a desirable quality.
Now the Raiders have to prepare to bounce back on a short week for Thursday’s Christmas Eve affair with the Chargers without the benefit of postseason aspirations. “Sometimes we joke around that there really is no offseason because everyone’s ultimate goal is to go to the playoffs and win the Super Bowl”. “That was our goal, and we didn’t do that”.
Mack typically lines up on the strong side of the offense, and he had all but one of the sacks last time out positioned on the left side of the defense.

Asked why not, he said, “We weren’t very effective”.
