Turkey’s decision to take out Russia’s Su-24 was a mistake, and now it’s time to look for a solution to the situation, co-chairman of the Turkish People’s Democratic Party told Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at a meeting in Moscow.
During his meeting with Lavrov, Demirtaş criticized the decision to shoot down the plane but added that the crisis should not be allowed to hurt the Turkish and Russian peoples.
Russian Federation imposed economic sanctions on Turkey after the incident and has sharply criticized the political leadership of Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan. Erdogan has accused the HDP of connections with armed Kurdish rebels fighting in Turkey’s south-east.
“These words from Numan Kurtulmus can be regarded as Turkey’s official recognition of the pre-planned operation to destroy a Russian aircraft above Syria and kill Russian military men”, an official representative of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, Igor Konashenkov said.
“From the very first days, we declared that as an opposition party in the country, we do not support the position of making relations with Russian Federation worse”, said Demirtaş.
“We are aware that Iraqi and Syrian Kurds are withstanding, with arms in their hands, the threats from the Islamic State and other extremist groups”.
He said Russia’s actions did not affect the Islamic State group, and only undermined the power of the Syrian moderate opposition.

But Interfax news agency quoted a Russian diplomatic source as saying that under the law HDP cannot open an office in Russia, although it could still be represented by a private person or a non-government organization.
