“The forces responded to the imminent threat, thwarted the attack and shot the perpetrator, resulting in his death”.
The attacker was later named as Iyad Jamal Issa Adyisat, from the village of Yatta, outside of Hebron. The military said troops responded by firing at the gunmen.
Israeli police spokesperson Micky Rosenfeld told Ma’an that Israeli forces present in the area at the time opened fire on the Palestinians during the attack. The wounded Israelis, a man and a woman, are being treated at a hospital.
Two Israelis were killed and a third seriously injured in the terrorist attack.
Nearly daily stabbings, shootings and car-rammings by Palestinians have killed 20 Israelis and a USA citizen since October. Israeli forces or armed civilians have killed at least 118 Palestinians, most of whom authorities have described as assailants.
Palestinians are frustrated by Israel’s 48-year occupation and with peace talks going nowhere. One of their bullets may have accidentally caused the second Israeli fatality.
Israeli leaders have expressed outrage at the video.
An organization representing Argentina’s Jewish community, known as DAIA, identified one of the victims as as Rabbi Eduardo Birmajer, an Argentine. One hundred Palestinians have been killed, many while carrying out or attempting to carry out terrorist attacks.
The words “Revenge” and “Hello from the detainees of Zion” were daubed on the wall of the home attacked on Tuesday, an apparent reference to the suspects in the Duma arson investigation.
The firebombing drew renewed attention to Jewish extremism and accusations Israel had not done enough to prevent such violence.
