“Black Xmas is here and there will be no business as usual until we get accountability for our dead, and justice for the living”, the activist group said in a statement. He called the timing of the protest “unfortunate”.

Most of the demonstrators walked outside to a nearby light rail station where they rallied to slogans like “What do we want?”

“The Court does not have a sufficient basis to issue an injunction as to Black Lives Matters or to unidentified persons who may be acting as its agents or in active concert with the Black Lives Matters movement”, she wrote.

Officials said that traffic at the airport was back to normal by Wednesday evening and that about 80 stores at the mall were closed for about an hour as officers escorted protesters off the property.

Last year’s protests had an estimated 3,000 attendees, but this year’s protest over the shooting of a convicted criminal named Jamar Clark failed to bring out anywhere near that number.

The mall went on lockdown, police ushered everyone out and protesters headed to the Minneapolis-St. A judge barred three organizers from attending the demonstration but said she doesn’t have the power to prevent others from showing up to demonstrate. Stores in the mall had to close, and dozens of people were arrested.
