New Jersey is waking up to some of the thickest fog of the season so far. And not only will it be mild, but abundant sunshine should grace many areas on Thursday as well… A cold front approaching from the west today will bring rain before it dissipates just west of the area Wednesday. From now through Christmas Day, records are expected from Texas, through the Gulf Coast, mid-Atlantic, and even New England. But by late Thursday, a stronger cold front will move through the region, bringing strong winds and snow down to 3,000 feet by Christmas morning.
Highs will climb into the mid 70s across much of New Jersey this afternoon, which is typical for the time of year when Memorial Day falls. The record high in Tallahassee on Christmas Day was 80 set in 1984. The rain doesn’t stop there…Saturday we’ll have a few showers and a high of 71. There’s a 30 percent chance of rain that day, expected to be mostly cloudy, and up to 30 mile per hour wind gusts.
According to the National Weather Service, there may be a chance of showers throughout Thursday evening, but those showers will taper off.
The central and western part of our viewing area is under a Flash Flood Watch through Christmas Eve morning.
There looks to be less rain for Christmas Day, but clouds will linger and isolated showers and storms are still possible.
Forecast confidence remains unusually low for this weekend and beyond. Temperatures won’t be as warm, but highs will still climb into the mid 60s, over 20 degrees above average and possibly record breaking warmth once again.

Right now models show scattered showers and thunderstorms Saturday. For now, beyond today, there’s no more truly “steady rain” expected through at least Monday night.
