Raiders’ Charles Woodson to retire
Those emotions will only be stronger Thursday night when Woodson takes the field at the Oakland Coliseum for the final time.

Except for a trace of gray in his beard, he looked like the same guy who last played for the Packers in 2012. He has 65 interceptions and 13 touchdowns.
Woodson’s unprecedented 18-year career in the NFL will finish at the end of this season and Woodson will eventually waltz into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
“It would be sad for the fans [if the Raiders move]”. He was pulled toward the end of Sunday’s game, but Musgrave said that was because the team liked having J’Marcus Webb back at guard and Khalif Barnes in at tackle as they went to a pass-happy offense trying to comeback. They love the Raiders. “One thing I’ll tell those guys when I talk to them is if it’s the last game here in Oakland, make it the best”. It’s happened to them before, so it would be tough for them if it happened again.
But since Del Rio doesn’t know what the future holds, he’ll concentrate on preparing his team to face the Chargers. “Yeah, it could have added significance”.
Del Rio fully understands what a vital job he will have in keeping a lid on his players and focused on the gameplan, but he has been around the block enough to know how to handle a situation like this – remember as well, we are just two games down the line from that stunning upset victory he masterminded in Denver. That’s not my area. “I let Mr. Davis, handle that stuff. To me, that’s working well”.
“Even when his usually stingy defense falters, soon-to-be league MVP Cam Newton finds a way”, said the Tampa Bay Tribune’s Ira Kaufman after the Panthers’ latest win, 38-35 over the New York Giants.
Woodson warms up with the receivers before each game, prior to joining the defensive backs. Think of it as the cool glass of water to help wash down the bitter pill fans in Oakland are facing with the possibility of this being their beloved franchise’s final stop there before heading off to LALA land. It caught on, and Woodson hasn’t been shy about playing to the fans after big plays.
Woodson has played 965 defensive snaps this season and has five interceptions and three fumble recoveries, ranking second in the National Football League with eight takeaways.
Former Raiders quarterback Rich Gannon said on his Sirius XM NFL radio show that Gruden used “Fremont” as a way to entice Woodson to be more involved in the offseason program. That’s where the “O” came from, just to have something they can identify with, something they can be prideful about. The Raiders have played 281 games in their two stays in Oakland-Alameda County/Network Associates/McAfee/O.co Coliseum between 1966-’81 and 1995-2015. “To see the whole crowd do it, there is no feeling that like that”. The Rams got past the Buccaneers, 31-23, a week ago on Thursday Night Football, while the Chargers dismantled the Dolphins, 30-14, on Sunday afternoon. Oakland, 6-8, was eliminated from the postseason mix Week 15. He hasn’t been on the receiving end of a pass (as a member of the offense) since 2000. According to OddsShark, the Raiders are favored by six points. We scored more points than them. Murray had 85 yards rushing against San Diego the first time around.
Khalil Mack, Marcel Reece, and Charles Woodson all made the Honolulu cut. Long before becoming the Raiders head coach, it’s where he led Hayward High to the North Coast Section 2A championship in 1979, a game that still ranks among his all-time favorite moments.

Longtime Raiders standout Charles Woodson will retire after this season. Woodson was a solid presence in the secondary no matter where he was playing or who he was covering, and will certainly be missed.
