Group seeks cop’s suspension in fatal shooting
Sam Sillon, of Detroit, who lives on the block where the shooting took place, said the presence of Dearborn Police is “like an armed fist” that targets the poor and minorities for minor violations in order to increase city revenue.

The chase led to a physical struggle that ended in the fatal shooting on Whitcomb Avenue near Tireman Avenue and Greenfield Road, according to multiple media reports. That’s when, police said, the officer fired shots, and the suspect – identified as a 34-year-old black male – was killed.
A police watchdog group is calling for the officer’s suspension. According to a source, the officer and suspect got into a wrestling match before the suspect broke free and ran again.
The suspect then reportedly tried to grab the officer’s weapon, at which point he was shot, the unnamed source tells The News.
The suspect took off running and the officer chased him into a backyard where a “physical altercation” ensued. Police said the officer’s uniform was torn and equipment was in disarray.
The Dearborn Police Chief called the shooting “extremely tragic”, and offered condolences to Matthews’ family. Matthews was black. No further information was released about either individual.
In a statement today, the Detroit Coalition Against Police Brutality said it will be investigating the shooting.

Williams, who was also at the home, confirmed the name of the deceased, but blocked a reporter from approaching Johnson.
