The Telegraph later reported the NSA obtained communications that proved the Russian government authorized the killing.
Trump later said of Putin, “He’s running his country and at least he’s a leader, unlike what we have in this country”.
One of the most prominent was Anna Politkovskaya, 46, a writer for Novaya Gazeta who was shot dead in her Moscow apartment block on October 7, 2006, Putin’s birthday.
MSNBC’s report noted that the Committee to Protect Journalists has published the names of journalists killed in Russia: “Since 1992, the CPJ says that 56 journalists of various nationalities have been killed in Russia”.
On Saturday, for example, the Republican frontrunner said about the Russian president, “You know, he feels good about me”.
Asked about Trump’s comments on Concord News Radio, McCain said, “The thing that is so concerning about Mr. Trump’s compliments of Vladimir Putin is Vladimir Putin has slaughtered his own, murdered his own people, including people I knew”.
John Locher/AP Marco Rubio blasted Trump for his gentle approach and kind words for Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The Republican front-runner’s response to criticisms of Vladimir Putin?
But Mr Trump has hit back to claim British politicians “should be thanking me instead of pandering to political correctness”. “I didn’t praise him – he praised me”.
“You would like me to call him a weak leader”. He’s the leader of the parties.’ And he said nice things…. He’s a strong leader. “I’ll accept that, and I’ll accept it on behalf of our country”, he said on ABC’s This Week.
Trump had argued Friday on Morning Joe that Putin’s alleged tactics aren’t so different from what he sees happening in the U.S.

Anchor George Stephanopoulos asked Trump if he had a problem with Putin’s reputation for killing journalists and political opponents. “So if he’s happy with it, that’s fine”. He also lambasted the U.S., NATO and other western countries for unnecessary meddling in North Africa and the Middle East. His statements were made in a recently released Russian documentary titled “World Order”. “So this is a person who’s done some horrifying things on the global stage”, the Florida senator said on CBS’ “Face the Nation”. “You don’t brag about what a great guy he is”.
