Successful spacewalk clears way for delivery to space station
How filthy is the International Space Station?

Tim Peake, the British astronaut, was forced to leave an answer phone message for his parents after calling them from the International Space Station to find that they had “popped out”.
The cause of the stall remains unclear but “experts believe it may be related to a stuck brake handle” according to ISS mission integration and operations manager Kenny Todd.
It was the seventh spacewalk of the year.
Due to the circumstances, this week’s spacewalk was organized quickly over the weekend.
Astronauts Scott Kelly and Timothy Kopra took half-hour to complete the unplanned fix job. “So I do follow it very closely, and I have to say, it’s been very interesting”, said Kelly. The problem hit after the transporter moved only four inches along the truss and then jammed.
The rail auto needed to be moved so a cargo ship filled with almost three tonnes of food and supplies could dock at the orbiting space lab.
“Good news! It appears to have reached the work site”, astronaut Mike Hopkins in Mission Control told the spacewalkers a short time later.
A handout photograph made available by NASA showing Expedition 46 Flight Engineer Tim Kopra on the spacewalk. For Kelly, this meant routing power cables to prepare for a new docking mechanism that is expected to be installed next year.
Astronauts plan for months before going on a spacewalk.
The vehicle, which moves people and equipment around the exterior of the ISS, had become stuck when a crew equipment and translation aid, or CETA, cart, was left with its brake on.

This surprise spacewalk was commanded by NASA’s Scott Kelly and NASA astronaut Tim Kopra who arrived at the space station less than a week also joined him for the spacewalk.
