NFL Players Will Be Admitted Free to the Movie ‘Concussion’

And the plot device of Omalu’s wife becoming a football fan provides an excuse to pepper the film with shots of plays gracefully executed and offset the notion that Concussion is a football hate-film. It becomes his crusade, perhaps even to the point of putting himself in physical danger, as the National Football League forcefully pushes back and tries to discredit him.

Mall of America officials tried to block the protests, contending the marchers were unlawfully on private property. In particular the group focused on Jamar Clark , a 24-year-old black man shot and killed by Minneapolis police.

Apart from the violent tackles that players endure, Laskas said that the “less obvious, insidious problem is the sub-concussive hits that the linemen take and give, every single play, every single practice”.

His study, in conjunction with the University of Pittsburgh’s pathology department, led to the discovery that the former players were suffering from Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, or CTE, an asymptomatic brain disease. All those shots to the head, all those concussions-acknowledged or, frequently, not-have created a class of ex-players struggling with depression, erratic behavior, and memory loss.

But there’s no doubt that Omalu is a man whose work now resonates from hockey to soccer.

Will Smith sat down with CBN News to discuss playing Dr. Bennet Omalu. It’s a much more complex game. (Duerson’s family, incidentally, has publicly disputed how Duerson is portrayed in the film.) He turns into a crucial ally of Omalu’s.

With its corny 1980s vibe, “Concussion” isn’t a great movie – it’s formulaic and predictable, slathered with dopey musical cues and sprinkled with contrived movie-ish dialogue like, “I can’t tell whether you are more afraid of what you will find or what you won’t”. “It’s David and Goliath, but it played out in real life”.

“I had watched my son play football for four years, and I didn’t know”.

Omalu says the health and safety questions surrounding American football are a major public health issue of “epidemic” proportions and says he hopes to see an evolution in attitudes towards the sport similar to the shift in attitudes regarding substances like tobacco and alcohol. I saw how someone could see it that way. “I now pay more attention to those things”.

Omalu argues that brain damage can occur through the cumulative effect of repeated blows to the head without concussion necessarily being recorded. What we want parents to know is that, this is not just about football. There is also a love story.

“It really is a lovely, old fashioned love story and somewhat unconventional in many ways”, Mbatha-Raw said.

“It’s only in America that you can have a Will Smith”.

Ridley Scott and Giannina Scott, who are both producers of the movie, are the founders of Dr. Omalu’s foundation.
