Ben Carson Says Reports About Campaign Shakeup Are Overhyped
U.S. Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson told the Washington Post in an interview on Wednesday he blames his advisers for his drop in opinion polls and plans a shake-up of campaign staff.

But speaking to CNN’s Don Lemon on “CNN Tonight” Wednesday evening, Carson said the stories had been overhyped, repeatedly calling out the Post for its “sensationalism” and insisting that no changes had been finalized.
Carson said there will be personnel changes – he was not specific here other than to say senior members of his campaign are safe right now – and he said he’s considering slashing salaries. Everything is on the table, every job is on the table.
(Carson) “They were convinced that I was going to fire everybody, and the were going to go in a completely different direction, and that’s absolutely not true”.
But, the campaign said, it does not anticipate staff cuts despite falling poll numbers. He was coy and responded by saying changes could come as soon as “tomorrow” and certainly before the Iowa caucuses on February 1.
After ABC spoke with Bennett, Carson released a statement touting “100 percent confidence” in his campaign team.
“We need to maximize our efficiency, maximize our outreach, look at the things that brought us success, look at the things that caused us to fall, and react to those things in an appropriate way”, Carson said.
Lemon repeatedly pressed Carson on specific changes he wants to make to his campaign.
The sum total has Carson losing much of his support in Iowa to Sen.
Carson said he has been urged privately by his aides to use more “bombast” and to take on Trump and Cruz more forcefully but that he disagreed with their advice.
“I’m extremely sensitive about budgets, growing up poor”, Carson said. Williams and Bennett have been clashing over Carson’s image and approach, Republicans said, to the point where they often communicate directly to Carson with competing messages.
Although Ben Carson surged in the polls just months ago, a number of controversies and gaffes appear to have gradually stripped away his appeal with a large portion of Republican voters. ‘I think the people that I have are spectacular.
Carson found himself being tripped up by foreign policy, in a presidential campaign that’s been overtaken by conversations of terrorism and ISIS, in the wake of the Paris attacks and the San Bernardino shooting. Carson visited two Syrian refugee camps in November on a quick “fact-finding” journey after Thanksgiving, which he has since publicized in an attempt to gain credibility on the controversy over admitting Syrian refugees into the United States.

The apparent rift between Carson, Williams and the paid campaign staff comes after his weeks-long slide in polls.
