Santa tracked by Google, Microsoft
In 1958, the governments of Canada and the United States created the bi-national air defense command North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), which then took on the tradition of tracking Santa.

NORAD will staff 157 phone lines with volunteers, who will answer an estimated 125,000 calls from children around the globe looking for Santa.
As much of the world has gone mobile, so has NORAD Track Santa.
The Santa Tracker website was launched in 1997 through there children are able to have a visual glimpse of Santa’s progress.
People dressed as Santa Claus gather in Brooklyn’s McCarren Park during the SantaCon 2015 in New York City December 12, 2015, the 21st anniversary of the event that sees hundreds of people dress as Father Christmas.
Kids lined up to tell Santa their Christmas list this Christmas Eve.
“During this season of giving, we agreed to waive the normal application fees and entry inspection/overtime costs”, said Dr. John Clifford, the USDA’s Chief Veterinary Officer.
In recent years, NORAD’s Santa tracking efforts have grown.
The Colorado-based organization, which stands for North American Aerospace Defense Command, is keeping tabs not only on where Santa and his reindeer are at any given moment around the world, but how many gifts he’s delivered.
And thanks to Google, Microsoft, and NORAD, you can track Santa’s whereabouts from your phone, computer, or tablet. That’s 40 calls per volunteer per hour.
The tradition started in 1955 when Colonel Harry Shoup, who was controlling the crisis phone at Air Operations Center at Continental Air Defense Command, received a phone call from a child expecting to reach Santa Claus.

There is also a Google Santa Tracker available to give a different version of the update.
