Record-breaking warmth in Christmas Eve forecast
Even though Christmas Eve started off brightly and there was a similar forecast for Christmas Day, heavy rain is the order of the day. Less snow is expected in the Black Hills.

At midnight, the city broke a Christmas Eve record with temperatures at 64 degrees. It also will be windy, with gusts up to 29 miles per hour.
Travel conditions around the rest of the country are likely to be more active.
The rain will stop for a short period around midday, but there is a high chance of showers in the afternoon.
Tonight: Mostly Cloudy, Scattered Showers(40%). South wind around 5 miles per hour becoming calm in the evening. East northeast wind 10 to 15 miles per hour. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. The holiday classic “Let it Snow” has been remixed to “Let it Rain”, with puddles and flooding replacing what’s traditionally been snow covered streets and sidewalks in New York City.
It will remain warm today with a high of 55, about 20 degrees above the normal high for the date, so it appears the 1964 record of 65 will remain safe. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible. Showers Saturday night. Low around 51.
Then as that LOW rolls out, another one takes it’s place. Temperatures across the state will stay in the 60s overnight, and could approach 80 in the Midlands and along the coast on Christmas Day. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. Mostly cloudy with a low around 32.
The weekend brings a bit of a roller coaster ride for temperatures, with highs in the upper 40s on Saturday and up around 60 on Sunday.

Today: It will dry out with a mix of sun and clouds expected, said StormCenter 7 Meteorologist Brett Collar.
