BYU to hire Ty Detmer as offensive coordinator
Brigham Young University officially introduced Kalani Sitake as their new head football coach Monday. “I am looking forward to working with them as we complete our staff and prepare our team for the 2016 season”.

“My family and I are extremely excited to be part of the football program at BYU again”, Detmer stated in the press release.
Sitake will be BYU’s 14th head coach and the first ever college football head coach of Tongan descent. The two-time All-American won the Heisman in 1990. “I couldn’t be more excited”.
Detmer went on to spend 12 years in the National Football League mostly as a backup for five teams before becoming the coach at St. Andrews Episcopal School in 2009. He started in 25 of the 54 games in which he played. Tuiaki graduated from SUU in 2006, where he was a two-year letterman running back and a team captain before transferring to Snow College. He spent one year with the Beavers as linebackers and special teams coach while Sitake served as defensive coordinator. He and his wife Viola are the parents of six children.
“I am excited to be back home”, said Tuiaki, who lived in Provo, Utah. And as Pro Football Talk’s Michael David Smith noted, that’s the only coaching job Detmer held prior to his appointment by Sitake.
His addition to the BYU coaching staff should prove to be a boon to the school’s recruiting as he further ties the program back to legendary coach LaVell Edwards, as does Sitake.

No additional coaches or responsibilities were announced by BYU, but further day-to-day responsibilities will be determined as each position coach is hired.
