Police set up a incident command centre and there were reports that one person had a leg injury, another had an asthma attack and another person was in labour.
Many mall employees heard gunshots and locked their stores’ doors or escorted shoppers out backdoors. He said a police officer was nearby and returned the fire. Officers responded, and an armed man, identified by police as Daquan Westbrook, was shot during the altercation, police said. This was NOT an active shooter situation.
Before police issued their statement, Shauntelle Hamrick, the manager of the Journeys shoe store, said an altercation led to gunfire and one person getting shot. “It was wild. I heard the first shot and I thought, ‘Wait”.
Columbus said she bolted to the back of the store.
Several people were injured in a shooting at a mall in Charlotte on Christmas Eve.
Witnesses said the mall was being evacuated and the parking lot cleared out.
“Five guys started fighting, two of them ran out of the store when the third guy came out of the store he pulled out a gun”, Elliott said. One person on twitter said people were running out of the mall.
