So far, the film has grossed over $689 million worldwide. J.J. Abrams directed the $200 million production, overseeing a cast of “Star Wars” veterans and newcomers. In honor of the release of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”, the Alamo Drafthouse movie theater hosted an insane movie watching marathon competition to find the ultimate “Star Wars” fan. Others forecast more. “The movie is going to do well regardless of its take here”, said Ben Cavender, Shanghai-based principal of China Market Research Group.

At a screening and Q&A of the film at the Writers Guild of America recently, director J.J. Abrams spoke about why the scene had to happen. “The more times The Force Awakens is watched by its fans, the more likely it is to become an instant classic”.
