Gov. Jerry Brown grants Robert Downey Jr. clemency for past felony conviction
According to E! News, the Iron Man actor has been pardoned by California Governor Jerry Brown for a string of drug and alcohol-related offenses he was convicted of in the 1990s.

The 50-year-old actor was caught with cocaine, heroin and a concealed pistol when he was stopped for speeding on the Pacific Coast Highway in Los Angeles County in 1996. After serving a year and six months in prison and three years on parole, he was discharged in 2004.
In August he was named Hollywood’s highest earner.
The governor said he chose to clear Downey’s record because he has led an “honest and upright life” and exhibited “good moral character” in recent years. The pardon was obtained on the grounds that the convicts had rehabilitated themselves.
It also states Downey “has paid his debt to society and earned a full and unconditional pardon”.

Most people pardoned along with Downey Jr had been found guilty of nonviolent drug and property crimes.
Mr Brown has issued hundreds of pardons in each of his four terms in office, usually doing it around Christian holidays.
Downey’s life and career have rebounded, and he stars as “Iron Man” in Disney’s films based on the Marvel comic books.

All 91 individuals pardoned have completed their sentences and have been out of prison for more than 10 years, according to a press release from the governor’s office.
