Chipotle linked to new E.coli outbreak with different strain this time
The Mexican quick service restaurant chain is again feeling the heat from the USA government, as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Monday it is investigating five additional food-related disease cases associated with the restaurant.

It is noted that Chipotle’s stock suffered a 20 percent decline in stocks after the outbreak; however, shares went up by 3.6 percent at $567.71 in premarket trading following Ells’ appearance in Today.
State officials said the strain of E. coli in the Oklahoma cases appears to be different from the others.
At the same time, however, the CDC had some bad news.
“At this point, even rational and informed consumers could potentially be given reason to pause when choosing Chipotle over the plethora of fast casual competition in the marketplace”, Ivankoe told clients, cutting his price target on the stock to US$555 from US$630.
Federal authorities are investigating a new E.coli strain linked to Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc, piling more pressure on the popular burrito chain already grappling with an outbreak that has affected about 50 people in nine states.
Preliminary testing of a sample of diced celery and onion blend collected from a Costco location by the Montana Public Health Laboratory indicated the presence of E. coli O157:H7. It has also carried out additional food-safety training for employees. These latest cases started between November 18 and November 26. “The CDC would not say how likely or unlikely it is that all the cases with both DNA fingerprints are linked but said it is performing tests to make that determination and hopes to know in a few weeks”, CNN reports. Amid the outbreak, Chipotle had shut several of its outlets temporarily till the investigations were on. But the company warned earlier this month that it now expects sales to fall sharply in the fourth quarter because of the E. coli concerns. The report is being seen as a huge negative by analysts and investors on the street.
“Since this issue began, we have completed a comprehensive reassessment of our food-safety programs with an eye to finding best practices for each of the ingredients we use”, Chipotle spokesman Chris Arnold said Monday.

Chipotle has been under scrutiny since November, when health officials first linked it to an E. coli outbreak, the company’s third food safety incident since August.
